Learn to work with persons impacted by crime — harmed parties, those who cause harm, & community members — through a restorative dialogue process (Victim Offender Dialogue/Mediation or VOD).
Topics include…
- Origins, philosophy & principles of restorative justice & victim offender dialogue/mediation
- Victim awareness and sensitivity
- Offender awareness and sensitivity
- Case preparation for victim offender dialogue/mediation
- The mediation process and how it applies to crime and disciplinary breaches
- Communication and conflict resolution skill-building (especially for emotionally-charged situations)
- Working with local criminal justice agencies to set up a community-based VOD program
- Kansas Supreme Court Rules relating to Core Mediation, including ethical obligations
