Introduction to Restorative Justice
Restorative Justice is a framework of principles and values which focus on addressing the needs of those impacted by harm through relational processes of accountability and repair. Restorative Justice values and principles are applicable in response to harm as well as in its prevention and cessation through relational community building and problem solving.
The core questions of Restorative Justice when applied to an incident of harm are:
- Who was hurt?
- What are their needs?
- Who has responsibility to address those needs?
- What process should be used including those who have been affected?
Restorative Justice principles are applied in a wide variety of settings: criminal justice system, education, organizations, and communities.
